Agriculture is the second largest sector in Alberta. In addition, a study conducted by Statistics Canada and Agri-Food Canada, published July 2017, reveals that the most Francophone workers in the agricultural sector are located in Alberta.
In order to meet the needs of this clientele, the CDÉA remains on the lookout for projects and economic development initiatives that can affect both this clientele and Anglophone farmers.
In the spring of 2017, CDEA received support from the Government of Alberta, through the C.A.R.E.S. Program, to develop the hemp fiber industry; of which is an increasingly popular custom in various sectors (automobiles, residential, etc.).
Combined with regional commitment and private sector involvement, the long-term goal is to build at least two hemp fiber decortication plants in Alberta.
