Born in Alberta, Daniel Cournoyer is a proud Franco-Albertan who has been the Executive Director of La Cité francophone since 2012. La Cité, located in the heart of Edmonton’s Francophone neighbourhood of Bonnie Doon, is a dynamic cultural and community centre that is the gathering point for the community.
During his tenure as Executive Director, Daniel Cournoyer has spearheaded numerous initiatives that have significantly raised the profile of La Cité francophone and strengthened its financial standing. Notable achievements under his leadership include the establishment of Café Bicyclette, a thriving café beloved by both Francophones and Anglophones, and the ‘Flying Canoe’ winter festival. This captivating event offers an immersive experience into the rich history of the Chasse-Galerie and French-Canadian and First Nations folklore. In just five years, the festival has seen an astounding increase in attendance, growing from 3,000 to 40,000 visitors. Prior to joining La Cité francophone, Daniel was the General Director and Artistic Director of l’UniThéâtre for 19 years.
Originally from France, Norbert brings a wealth of financial management expertise garnered from his experience working with multiple companies. In 2006, he made the move to Calgary with his young family. Starting his Canadian career in the oil industry, Norbert joined a company specializing in drilling equipment before furthering his professional development and becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Alberta. In 2016, he assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer at Lake Louise Ski Resort.
Fluent in both French in English, Norbert is an accomplished bilingual professional who excels in financial planning and business modeling. He favors a hands-on approach and is constantly on the lookout for new ideas to accelerate growth and increase the profitability of companies.
Christian Cormier is a seasoned lawyer admitted to the Alberta Bar, he’s also the founder of Prairie Advocate Law Office, a dedicated legal practice aimed at providing comprehensive assistance to business professional their families. With a primary focus on small and medium-sized businesses and non-profit organizations. Christian offers strategic guidance in matters relating to organization formation, financing, operational adjustments, and litigation.
Backed by an MBA and a wealth of experience gained from working with organizations of varying scales, Christian excels in helping clients navigate legal complexities while considering business risks and operational dynamics. Having worked in prominent business hubs such as London, Singapore, and Toronto, he recognizes the vital importance of fostering trust-based relationships in the realm of business.

With an educational background in collaborative negotiation from Mount Royal University, and a certificate in positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, she brings a fresh perspective to the CDÉA Board of Directors. Valérie is passionate about helping clients navigate life transitions and empowering them to embrace change and thrive. Her valuable insights and dedication to personal growth make her an invaluable asset to the board.
Mario Raymond embarked on his career at a young age, honing his skills on construction sites in his hometown of Quebec. Fueled by his passion for his craft he continually sought to enhance his training, knowledge, and experience across Québec and Ontario. His hard work ethic, perfectionism, and commitment to his craft led him to Alberta in 2008, where he established his own commercial glass installation company, Mario Inc. Since then, Mario has undertaken projects across the province and even ventured to Nunavut.
As an active participant in CDÉA activities and events, Mario has left a lasting mark as one of two “investor dragons” at the final night of the Young Entrepreneurs competition in Edmonton in March 2019. Proudly supporting numerous Francophone organizations, he launched his endowment fund with the Fondation franco-albertaine in the spring of 2018, aimed at bolstering Alberta’s Francophonie.
Bruno Schell is a passionate individual with a profound interest in the sciences and humanities, which has taken him on remarkable journeys across Europe, South-East Asia, and North America. Originally trained in France in French literature, philosophy, and drama, Bruno later moved to Cambodia where he spent a decade as an educator an entrepreneur.
During his time in Asia, Bruno actively contributed to the development of innovative educational programs, including the Krou Eureka initiative that supports students facing difficulties. During his time in Asia he developed a passion for orthopedic massage, which led him to Alberta in 2020, where he currently practices as an independent orthopedic massage therapist while pursuing studies in traditional Chinese medicine. Bruno’s diverse academic background reflects his unwavering desire to merge different fields of knowledge.
Marie Lanquetin is a commerce and marketing graduate from France and posses extensive experience and a key account manager in various industries spanning medical, pharmaceutical, watchmaking, and environmental sectors across Switzerland, France and Canada.
Specializing in customer relations, Marie’s passion lies in delivering exceptional services to customers from Europe to the Middle East via the North American continent. Notably, in 2018, from Calgary, Marie developed access to wage and financing for environmental employers across Canada and helped thousands of young professionals secure their first jobs.
In 2022, Marie joined Atout Recrutement as Regional Business Development Manager for Western Canada. Her role involves recruiting top talent in the environmental market, serving the provinces of Alberta and Quebec. She excels at fostering smooth employee transitions between regions sourcing strong candidates internationally, particularly from French-speaking countries.
Marie’s expertise lies in cultivating win-win partnerships and forgoing long-term relationships with her associates. She dedicates considerable time to meticulously identify ideal candidates.

- Marie is involved with the non-profit association: Femmes en énergie CWIE (Calgary Women in Energy) which is dedicated to the promotion, support and empowerment of women in the energy sector.
- She is a member of the Board of Directors of for the Albertan newspaper Le Franco.
- She is a board member of the CDEA, which is Calgary’s resource center for francophone women in entrepreneurs known as: Les Elles des Affaires.
- She is an advocate for the environment and reduces her emissions by cycling as a mode of transportation. She cycles about 4000 km a year in Calgary (including in winter with studded tires and warm clothing).
- She teaches French and its cultures online to retirees and professional who work in finance and education.
Isabelle Leblond, the General Manager of La Société de Reinette Daycare, is a respected leader in early childhood education within the greater Calgary area, With a wealth of experience dating back to 2002, Isabelle’s remarkable business acumen and unwavering commitment have solidified her position in the field. Isabelle’s expertise is invaluable as she brings her insights to the CDÉA Board of Directors, focusing on the pressing matter of enhancing access to French-language daycares in Alberta.
Alèthe Kaboré is a Canadian-Burkinabé who relocated to Edmonton in 2006 to pursue her graduate studies. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, a Master’s degree in Public Health with a specialization in Global Health and a Certificate in Community- Based Participatory Research, all obtained from the University of Alberta.
Currently Alèthe works at the Saint-Jean Library while also serving as the owner and chief designer of KYN Apparel, and emerging fashion brand that serves as a source of inspiration by celebrating and connecting cultures through exquisite fashion creations.
Passionate about advocating for education and healthcare access for all, Alèthe actively supports initiatives aimed at combating social inequalities. She also possesses a strong commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, particularly among young black women, both in Africa and within the Edmonton community. It is this unwavering passion that motivated Alèthe to join the CDÉA Board of Directors.
